The Healing Power of What Is

Today I had the opportunity to work with a bunch of young men in trouble. Most were filled with anger, resentment and shame. One such man was very brave. He came fact to face with a father who left him and the family when he was an infant. He was able to see him in a bigger light, and the shame and guilt his father felt at the death of a child born be fore him. HIs father couldn't face his guilt, and so had to leave the family, taking with him his oldest son. So this young man lost 2 brothers and a father at the same time. He looked at his dad with anger and longing, and was able to see him for the first time in a long time. And he could accept his father for who he was, and to accept what happened as true. And there he stood, unable to move any further.
Some might say that isn't enough. He was unable to have his father walk up to him and take him in his arms. But the bravery in just facing that man and seeing him was great.
Often seeing what is and accepting it is good enough! It opens us to the next movement instead of being locked into the past.
